GEORGIAN STATE PANTOMIME THEATRE

Buba started in the Georgian State Pantomime Theatre right after university and performed, taught and toured worldwide with the theatre through the end of the season in 2008 -- for 15 years. He played practically every role in every show the theatre had created (up to that time period) in the repertoire.

Partly wanting to expand his horizons and partly in disagreement with the direction the theatre was heading,  propelled him into the world as an independent performer and theatre maker.

Tea Time - Written and performed by Buba Basishvili and Yan Christian Collazo

Tea Time is a sublime, absurdist comedy that explores power, submission, and the folly of hope; Laurel and Hardy meet George Orwell’s 1984.  Buba Basishvili (Republic of Georgia) and Yan Christian Collazo (Puerto Rico) collaborated to create Tea Time, finding a common theme in their experiences of occupation in their countries.

"Powerful and effective portrayal of a confinement" - Pat Bitton, North Coast Journal

ZOTTO is an immersive and multi-sensory supernatural Japanese folktale and theatrical journey. Audiences explore three generations of Japanese American women and their relationship to Denver’s rich yet sordid history as they encounter yokai and obake (Japanese spirits and demons) and other unexpected characters, discover hidden secrets within forgotten spaces, and engage with interactive elements that ask them to consider relationships between intention and impact.

A traveling performance in Denver's historic Savoy building, inspired by stories of food and belonging from the Five Points and Curtis Park neighborhood.

From the Kitchens of Theatre Artibus + Grapefruit Lab + Emancipation Theater Company

Cast: Buba Basishvili, Jeannene Bragg, James Brunt, Jeff Campbell, Laura Chavez-Slack, Emmanuel "Spirit" Dewberry, Meghan Frank, Adrienne Martin-Fullwood, Mitchell Marquez, Julie Rada, and Lisa Young.

The show travels through the space and up/down stairs; contact the theatre if you have mobility concerns. Construction is planned in 2020 to make the Savoy fully ADA accessible, but will not be available for this show.

Funded in part by an IMAGINE 2020 grant

Designers include set by Incite Colorado, sound design by Kenny Storms, and lighting design by Shannon Johnson + some noteworthy nightly guests!

Through public story sharing events, interviews with local residents, and research into the generations of tenants who have lived in the Savoy building, stories were collected about how food shapes our lives, relationships, and experiences of home. The collected stories became the basis for a roving performance that moves audiences throughout the historic building.

PSYCHOSIS 4.48

I have got the chance to direct and choreograph this theatre piece by Sarah Kane with my friend Goga Kachibaia.

In the Georgian theatre world, they would call me a "playing coach" and say that an actor should not be a director. I'm happy that we proved the opposite.

By popular demand,  the show ran for one season in the theatre repertoire!
